The list of relevant NACA papers is pretty lengthy, I _think_ it's been
posted here. If not, there are a couple of folks who have it.

Sir Harry Ricardo-The Internal Combustion Engine

Edward F. Obert-The Internal Combustion Engine and Air Pollution

Irwin Glassman--Combustion

All are works describing (for the most part) the author's ORIGINAL research
work, in unedited detail , with the possible exception of Obert book--and,
although Obert DID do a bunch of original research, his style when
summarizing (or surveying) the work of others, compared to Heywood, is not
so egotistical and is much more inclusive (he lets the reader decide what
the facts and data mean, rather than deciding FOR the reader by editing the
facts to suit his own opinions.

Heywood's approach, on the other hand, is pretty typical of a LOT of MIT
prima donnas. Good examples of what I am talking about here exist in some
of the NACA papers--fully half of some papers authored by MIT folks explain
how clever they were to have been able to design the electronic circuit
(vacuum tube circuit in these cases !!!) which was used in the
instrumentation for the test which was the subject of the paper.

Gee--does this approach remind you of anyone here ?? Birds of a feather !!

Greg
