Knock sensing and retarding ignition

It's a bosch electronic distributor.  It has a "hall sending unit" in it
for the signal.  The distributor I have now doesn't seem to have anything
for output, unfortunately.  If there is any output there is about 10* as
much noise as there is signal.

I have been lead to believe that the output should look something like
-1/X, the X axis being time, and the Y axis being voltage.
