Our crimp type butt splices are sealed with a heat-shrink sleve, but ring terminals are just higher quality auto type. The only time we use heat shrink is on un-insulated ring terminals to prevent acring. We use mostly PTFE insulated wire throughout the aircraft. Some high temp/stress locations (engine nacels, wheel wells) require a fiberglass braided insulation and nickle plated copper strands. AC

Thanks, both Ron and Beau for your responses, which of course prompt
more questions from me. :)

What does a typical AC harness look like, is it all white wire
with each wire labeled at the ends, or do they use colored wire
to key them?

What would a ring terminal in a wheel well (high corrosion site)
look like? Would you use one of the crimped on, integral shrink
tube types? Or would you even have a ring out in a nasty spot
like that?

What's a good source for PTFE/ETFE/XLEFTE wire? I cruised over to my
usual xa sites, Aircraft Spruce and Wicks, both of whom have white
ETFE wire in various sizes, but their selection of those and other
items is pretty limited (and I'm certain their prices aren't the
best around :).

I'm really beating around the bush here, but what I'm trying to get
at is how to make good engine grounds for vehicles that see wet, salty
roads in the winter, where the electrical connections are rarely, if
ever, cleaned. I've seen OEM ground wires corroded to azure dust as
far back as 3-4" on ground wires under the hood on some cars, and I'd
like some way to eliminate it if possible.
