[Diy_efi] Poor earth toasting ECU?

In an ongoing saga trying to rid a (UK) Rover 820 with MEMS injection of =
an intermittent misfire, it has bee nsuggested running with a poor ECU =
earth could have damaged the ECU, it trying to 'find' an earth from =
somewhere else and similar. How likely is this? (ECU runs ignition and =
fuel)
