[Diy_efi] : tuned port manifolds

Hi Alan,
We used "Design of Machinery" by Robert L. Norton in the mechanisms clas=
s I
just finished up taking. It has a quite complete chapter on cam design i=
n
general, and even though there is little said on implementation to engine=
s,
it is still required material to design a proper cam. For the class I wr=
ote
up a rather lengthy Matlab program that will let me design a cam to meet =
any
position, velocity, acceleration, or jerk requirements.

I'm trying to design a turbo header for my Supra right now too. I've be=
en
looking for an in-depth (grad or PhD level) text on exhaust manifold desi=
gn
and I haven't been able to come up with much. Right now I am working on
modeling the flow through the header using the differential equations
Heywood presents in "Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals" but solving
the DEs explicitly, even using MAPLE, proved to be very difficult. I am
currently trying to develop a Matlab Simulink program to attempt to solve
them instead (it just crunches the numbers, doesn't solve the DEs
explicitly). Will the Phil H. Smith and John C. Morrison text be of any
help here? Judging by the Amazon.com reviews, it looked like it just
covered the very basics.

Thanks,

Jesse Ruppel
