Actually, I advocated using nothing but the original springs. But since I 
have had two welds break I now make a metal lock that holds the spring pins 
in a fixed position relative to each other. Works fine. The real trick is 
getting the rotor in phase with the distributor cap. You'd be surprised at 
how many distributor blueprinters dont get this right. If the rotor isnt 
pointing just after at the dist cap post when the magnetic trigger is lined 
up, the engine will misfire due to cross firing in the cap at high timing.

On a side note, anyone got a hack for the 4 cylinder 1227165  GM ECM 
application in the S-10 trucks? I thought I had found a 4 cylinder hac in the 
$0D ECMs, but they turned out to be MPFI and DIS, not very retrofittable. So 
far, the only 4 cylinder MAP TBI ECM I know of is the 1227165. I am still 
working on hacking it, but its slow going.
