The teletype circuit was using in excess of 200 VDC (_VERY_ ) short
duration, I would bet on u-sec scale rather than m-sec scale, for the
"peak" voltage, current limiting, and also a dump circuit to aid in rapid
collapse of the field in the coil when turned off.
