Be careful with single source cores. If Detroit does not use it in mass
numbers it will be hard to get.    ie 68F333.....

I prefer the ARM core now. My last two designs used the Atmel AT91FR4081
part with onboard 1M flash and 136k ram.

For simple minimal functions I use the ATiny12 , AVR or 8031 family.

Motorola is now licensing the ARM core so they will be yet another
supplier. My newest project uses the StrongARM running
embedded Linux and nano-X.
