While the MegaSquirt or similar is fully capable of
doing what you want, the SD GM ECU's have been very
well hacked for years now.

Advantage: You don't have to mess with the guts and
electronics, everything is already factory engineered
to fit and work together, even the connectors. You
just modify values in the spark and fuel tables to fit
your car (something you will have to do anyway with
any system).

Depends on where you want to spend your time.
