Memcals won't connect to a standard eprom programmer (of any type). 
Something like a SCSI cable header (the part that's usually soldered to
the circuit board) can be made to serve as a good adapter.

Watch laptop compatability.  It can be an issue, though it's generally
not.  Ask if the laptop you intend to use has any history of problems.

I spent a lot of time complaining about mine after I bought it, but it's
been working hard for about 7 years now.  Can't complain about that.
