Look at any auto parts place for anti-oilers/foulers - little sparkplug
adapters that screw into the sparkplug hole and then have the plug
screwed into them. This will put your plug in a recessed chamber like
these various magic sparkers do and you can test the affects of timing
and mixture at various engine speeds to see what happens for very little
cost. And if you are using 18mm plugs you can cut them up for O2 sensor
bungs when you are through testing.
These things did work more or less on old low compression oil burning
worn out flathead engines...at least they kept the plugs from getting
oil fouled so quickly.
