[Diy_efi] CS Failure

Good point about the twisted wires and wire nuts! Reminds me of a car at
the shop where I worked.
His issue wasn't charging but rather EFI. It was running VERY poorly and
backfiring out the TBI. After removing the air filter I could see one of
the injector connectors was missing. One orignal terminal from the
connector was stuck over an injector terminal, the other pin had a 2 inch
piece of wire crudely SOLDERED directly to the injector terminal. This wire
was crudely twisted to the other wire for that injector. Everything under
the air filter was well charred from the constant backfiring.
This gentleman explained he had be having trouble with this conenction (no
doubt!) and last time it failed "something else happened."
When I pulled the head off his engine, the #6 intake valve had an orange
wirenut wedged under the valve head. Valve was somehow miraculously not
bent!
The car owner had mentioned nothing about the wire nut! From the looks of
the piston tops, and the amount of gouges and nicks, his engine has eaten
numerous wire nuts and other foreign objects!
Later,
David (glad he no longer works on other peoples' cars)
