S19 vs S9

There's probably no difference.  Motorola S-record hex files have lines
beginning with the letter S and then a number that selects from several
record/line formats.  S1 is a data record with a 16 bit address.  S9 is
an end-of-file record, and also provides a program's entry point
address.  Thus, an S-record file contains a bunch of S1 records ending
with an S9 record.  (Other S-record types are also defined, but S1 & S9
are the most commonly used.)

I don't know what the "official" dot-extention is for S-record file. 
I've been using ".S19", and have seen references to ".MOT".
