If the timing offset is not withing the correct range, the pcm sets a
trouble code.  And it's almost always a "right now" kind of thing.  If
the pump is installed within range, the engine usually runs with no
trouble code.  IIRC, the # to shoot for is -.75 degrees offset.  I've
deliberately tried to set the offset at the low end, then advance the
timing slightly.  But there's such a small amount of variation which
is allowable, it's very difficult keep the pcm happy.
