It's probably worth mentioning that a $5D calibration is actually
for a 1227808, a compatible cousin of the 1227165. In fact $5D
works just fine on a '165, but it doesn't make use of the '165
8192 ALDL data stream.

It's also worth (re) mentioning that an ECU file is *not* for an
ECU, but for a "calibration", or a family of BIN files that share
a common data definition (and usually code too). The .ECU file
simply describes what that data is, and allows it to be manipulated.

So, the bottom line is that you should reference .ECU files for
"calibrations" rather than for ECU part numbers.

Of course, to confuse this further, it may be possible that GM has
doubled up on "calibration" numbers (there are only 256 possible
variants), and you should probably refer to a .ECU file as for an
ECU *and* a "calibration", although I'd be surprised if there is
any confusion in the real world. (!?!)
