DIS vs Dist. -- was Re: Beretta PROM use...

This is what I don't understand ..
1. A DIS has two air gaps; one for each spark plug.

There not in series, so there is little wasted spark energy.

2. A Distributor also has two air gaps; one for the
active spark plug, and one in the distributor.

The one is the cap is just wasting energy.
Thou it does set a min spark voltage for the plug/

Seems to me the DIS is the better option mainly because
it has the inherently more accurate crankshaft generated
reference signal(s).

Again, in theory. If you want to "worry" about timing chain stretch, and
the amount the camshaft twists, and ignore the twisting of the crank / block
then maybe so. Startin a 1 HP / CID, and at 6K rpm the best of engines are
turning to jelly. And all of the stuff is machined to within a tolerance,
so things all start to build up. We could even worry about the differences
in capactance (?) from condenser to condenser between different modules.
If in actual execution, if your really within a 1.5d of where you think
you are, your doing great.
No ignition system is better then the mechanic working on it....
