Remote EPROM

I've got an 1988 Olds Toronado. The ECM is pretty much burried under the
dash, not very easy to remove and install for repeated EPROM changes. Would
there be any problems created by running a ribbon cable between the EPROM
and MEMCAL so that the EPROM could be removed easier?
