Searching the '747 code, I have found these areas that reference the vss:
transient map filter
in idle discovery
decel fuel cutoff
open loop idle threshold
knock retard logic
egr enable
tcc control
shift light
egr test
open loop decel
hiway spark adv
IAC reset
IAC idle control
IAC throttle follower control
vss diag
