This list is not the place for these discussions, but i have to point out
there's more to it than you are seeing.
The USA has always tried to do "the right thing", but often seems to end up
making things worse. Cases in point are

The whole "war on drugs"
Involvement with Israels expansionist policy
Vietnam.
Backing Iraq, the Taliban, and Bin-laden. (With rather questionable
motives; how the tables have turned now)
Restarting international tension by breaking relations with China and
Russia, breaking the Kyoto deal, starting up arms escalation again,
restarting the starwars project, etc...

Of course, none of this justifies terrorism! But starting WW3 isn't the
solution either. You don't solve complex problems with simple solutions,
like carpet bombing innocent people.
I don't want to start an argument on here. Please feel welcome to join some
on-topic discussion lists if you'd like to see arguments for both sides.
