When I added a heated O2 sensor to my '86 Camaro I used a relay to provide power to the heater element. The relay I activated by wiring it in with the engines A.I.R. system on the Port circuit. The only time the O2 sensor heater element receives power is when the engine is cold enough for the ECM to direct air to the engine exhaust manifolds.
