Knock sensing is looking for high amplitude signals at certain 
frequencies within a defined crank angle window to determine whether 
knocking is occuring.  

With the larger piston clearances etc. on air cooled engines, the 
increase in structure-borne noise must make this difficult task 
extremely difficult.
