With cavitation, the pump is not only heating the water, it is _NOT_
pumping very much of it!

With a thermostat in place, it's about impossible to turn the pump fast
enough to cause cavitation. Might be able to make it make enough pressure
inside the block to blow freeze plugs out, but cavitation unlikely!
