Ummm...

Maybe use a pressure relief valve?  If using a return system, esp. an efi system,
and depending on engine loading, run times, engine size, temp, yadda yadda, you can
easily transport a fair amount of heat to the fuel in the tank.  And the regular
car/truck tanks rely on the straps to keep them from swelling excessively.  Though
they do swell enough in some cases to prematurely drop the fuel below the level of
the pump.

But for quickie little bursts or mostly light loads you might get away with a non
vented tank.
