[Diy_efi] switch mode replacement for to-220 7805?

What about National Semiconductor's simple switcher series? I've used a few
in TO-220-like packages (5 or 6 pins, don't remember) with good success.
The only thing I warn against is proper grounding and design or these things
ring like a teenage girl's telephone.

Subject: [Diy_efi] switch mode replacement for to-220 7805?

Has anyone seen a switching regulator which is a suitable
drop-in replacement for a TO-220 package 7805? Power Trends
(now TI) lists a couple, the PT5100 series and the 78SR100
series, but both are considerably larger and much more
expensive (~$15/qty 1). They are also good up to ~1.5 amps,
while I'd be happy with something in the 200-250ma range,
which would hopefully be smaller and cheaper.

   Thanks in advance,
   Chris C.
