I'm a complete newbie to this board and for that matter to FI. I am in the
process of converting an older carbed BMW to a Bosch L-Jetronic system. I
know this is light years from what most on this board are involved in but
it's a start for me and will hopefully enable me to learn a bit about the way
a typical FI system functions. With any luck I can use this knowledge to
broaden my FI horizons. Although this conversion is pretty straight forward
in that all of the components are adaptable to my engine, there is one
problem I can hopefully prevail on you folks to help me with. The situation
is this: I am presently using an Electromotive HPX distributorless ignition
system with which I am very pleased and would like to retain and use in
concert with the L-Jet. The question is will the tach signal from the HPX
provide the correct rpm signal to the Bosch ecu? Electromotive says it
"should" but a friend who is using an earlier iteration HPV system with his
L-Jet. says it didn't work in his case. He resorted using a dist. and coil
to provide the ecu with an rpm signal and the HPV to provide the actual
ignition which worked fine. I'd just as soon not have to use a dist. and
coil if I don't have to. Any guidance you folks can provide will be most
appreciated. Sorry for taking so much bandwidth.

Thanks,

EW
