Slightly off topic, but maybe someone here can assist me please?

I have rebuilt a 1988 European (UK) spec Volvo 740 turbo intercooler engine,
and it has sat on the engine stand for 12 months whilst we moved and did
various mods to our new home. I finally came to reinstall the engine
today, and on coming to fit the flex plate (flywheel on an auto
transmission car) I find that the crank bolt pattern is not uni
directional. I can fit the flex plate in one of many orientations. I
know which is the front, and which is the back. On the front face, the
one that goes towards the engine block, there is a production stamped
arrow. Does this point straight up at TDC? Or where? If I get it wrong,
the Motronic will not see correct timing marks. It's the flex plate with a
single tab on the rear (gearbox) face, and 2 block mounted sensors, one
counting ring gear teeth, the other seeing the single tab pass once per
revolution. Can someone help, I know I should have marked it up, but
hindsight is a wonderful thing :-) I believe the 740 also had a flex
plate with a "drum" on it, the drum having oblong holes in its
peripherary, it's NOT that type. I have posted a digi pic of the flex
plate on my web site if anyone needs to see it to ID it. Thanks.
