I was told on this list not too long ago that extra fuel past stoich did more
than just add cooling to the process.
You saying that's all it provides? That the best AFR is stoich under all
conditions, IF the air charge is well cooled for whatever reason below the
temperature where detonation becomes a problem?
If so, then why are methanol fueled race cars used at a 5:1 AFR, rather than the
stoich 6.45:1? Methanol at stoich cools many times better than gasoline at 12:1.
