'165 Minimum Air Question...

Like Dan suggested, you need to ensure that the IAC is fully closed and not under
ecm control when setting minimum air. Minumum air settings are a bit of a
balancing act, IMO. I like to use IAC counts as a reference for correct throttle
position. IAC counts will depend on minimum air, timing, tps adjustment, and fuel
delivery values. The farther you are from stock, the more these factors change
from stock settings, and the more room you'll have to make mistakes. However...
Do not close the throttle plates completely. You can often run the engine 'till
warm, back off the throttle stop screw completely, turn the screw back up until the
throttle lever arm just makes contact with the screw, then go an additional 1/2 to
1 turn. Again, I like to check the IAC counts as a reference. Once the throttle
stop is set, leave it alone. There may be occasions where you need to adjust it,
but think of it as the last item on the list to change.

One question: Did the car work with this minimum air setting at all? TPI engines
seem to "use up" IAC motors more often than other systems. One of the signs of a
faulty IAC is poor idle control when the engine is warm.
